The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry reunited with Prince William and Kate Middleton at Windsor Castle on Saturday amid rumors of a rift between the couples. The foursome greeted residents and observed flowers that were laid in honor of the late Queen. One sweet interaction stuck out, in particular, and quickly went viral as Meghan was seen tightly embracing a teen girl, who later told reporters that she wanted to make the former actress “feel welcome” in the UK. After the hug was captured on cameras, the 14-year-old girl recalled the moment to CNN. “It was quite nice to see William and Kate and Meghan and Harry together,” the girl said, referencing the rising tensions between members of the royal family. “We were just waiting for her to come, and she just came near me. [She] asked my name, how my day was, how long I was waiting,” she continued. “I asked if she could have a hug, and she hugged me back. It was just quite an amazing moment. I’m still shaking now. I can’t really explain what the feeling was when she did it, but it was really nice,” the young girl told the outlet. She explained that she felt that showing warmth and love toward the former Suits star was “the right thing to do” in light of “everything that’s happened” between Meghan and the royal family. “It just went through my mind. Everyone was kind of cheering me on, and I guess I felt like I needed to in a way. I just really wanted to at least hug her, because I look up to her in some ways,” she added before elaborating, “I just wanted to show her that she’s welcome here, I guess. I wanted to hug her after everything that’s happened, really now.” While royal members dashed to the queen’s bedside on Thursday to say their final goodbyes, it was reported that Meghan was not invited to join the family at the Scotland estate. Prince William and Prince Harry— who arrived separately—did not make it in time to see their grandmother. Meghan and Prince Harry—who resigned from royal duties in 2020 and reside in the U.S. with their two children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1—were already in Europe for a handful of charitable events when doctors revealed they were concerned about the queen’s health.
