Family, friends, and fans everywhere mourned the loss, but luckily, we will get to see Caan on screen one last time in the upcoming film Fast Charlie with Pierce Brosnan, who shared some behind-the-scenes photos of the late actor on set. Brosnan posted a handful of pictures on his Instagram showing him and Caan, in a wheelchair, hanging out on set. The duo could be seen chatting, practicing lines, and, in one particularly sweet photo, holding hands and posing for the camera. An emotional caption accompanied the photos, with Brosnan saying, “farewell Jimmy. We had many laughs together over those five days in New Orelans [sic] …you were an inspiration to me as [a] young actor starting out, and an even greater one as a man watching you work each day against great physical pain and discomfort.” He goes on to directly address Caan’s death and how it affected him personally, writing, “You gave [all] of yourself to the art of acting and performance to the very end. My heart has a deep sorrow this day for your passing. I shall cherish the memory of you always. My heart felt condolences to your family. May you Rest In Peace, forever in the light.” Caan, who began acting in 1961, had a lengthy career spanning six decades. Some of his best known roles include The Godfather, Misery, Elf, and more. According to Variety, he finished filming his part for the mob thriller earlier this year, a fitting last role given his impact on the gangster film genre. Directed by Phillip Noyce and based on the novel Gun Monkeys by Victor Gischler, the film is currently slated for an early 2023 release. In the film, Brosnan plays Charlie Swift, a hitman working for Caan’s character Stan, a mob boss, who must get revenge after a rival boss attacks Stan and his crew, finding an ally in Morena Baccarin’s character Marcie. Caan was also cast in two other upcoming movies, Redemption and Acre Beyond the Rye. The latter was in production before his death, but it’s unclear how much the actor was able to complete. As for Redemption, IMDb lists the project as “In Development,” so it’s highly likely that Caan was unable to film anything for it.
