Allegra worked with Bebe Rexha, who is Monday night’s contestant mentor, on her performance of “Adore You” by Harry Styles at the Aulani, the Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii, where the Top 24 competition is taking place. Allegra normally plays an instrument—for her audition she sat behind the piano performing the original song “Tainted,” but for Top 24, she planned to go instrument free. Bebe asked her if she was nervous about that and Allegra said, “I think it will be freeing for me to not be behind something. I want to connect.” Allegra is no stranger to TV audiences. She was a semi-finalist on NBC’s The Voice in season 18, finishing in the top 9, but said she wanted to audition for American Idol because it allows contestants to perform original songs rather than just covers. “The fact that they’re supportive of songwriters is really cool to me, and what an incredible opportunity it is to be able to perform something you wrote on this platform,” Allegra told Idol Chatter. American Idol airs Sunday and Monday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Next, Make Your Vote Count! How to Vote Online or By Text on American Idol 2022
