However, this summer, Hoover—affectionately called CoHo by her huge fan base—gained a whole new legion of CoHorts thanks to the viral nature of social media. Life and style influencer Lauren McBride, for example, discovered CoHo a few months ago after seeking book recommendations from her followers. Since reading several CoHo novels this summer, McBride has been posting about her favorites on her Instagram page and even started a BookClubz club to chat with fellow readers. “My Instagram community recommended Colleen Hoover at the beginning of the summer, and I’ve flown through many of her books ever since,” Lauren tells Parade. “I’ve read nine of her books thus far and consider myself an official CoHort. She has a way of drawing in the reader from the very first page, and I love that her endings are always just as they should be. They’re not wrapped up in a pretty bow, but they’re messy, beautiful, and perfectly imperfect! I’m thankful to my community for encouraging me to read It Ends With Us… CoHo got me hooked on reading again!” And amongst TikTok’s growing BookTok community, Hoover has been trending as her backlist of novels is being recommended left and right on the social media app by a younger generation of book lovers. In fact, It Ends With Us (a gripping story centered around domestic abuse), is currently ranked as the top fiction book on Barnes & Noble’s BookTok list. What is so special about Colleen Hoover? While I am not a die-hard CoHort, I have read several of Hoover’s books and she is, no doubt, a brilliant writer. She has the ability to take social issues, trauma, family drama, and heartbreak and turn them into remarkably captivating and page-turning stories featuring wonderfully flawed and—perhaps more importantly—relatable characters. Whether it’s a contemporary romance, women’s fiction, mystery, or young adult, Hoover’s stories deeply resonate with her readers, as her thousands of Goodreads reviewers will attest. And her characters will hang around in your mind even after you’ve gotten to the end in the best kind of book hangover way. https://www.tiktok.com/@kendra.reads/video/6973332098941832454?lang=en

Ugly Love (2014)
Confession: Ugly Love is my go-to when I am in the mood for an ugly cry book. Miles and Tate both fear commitment and think they can handle a no-strings-attached fling as long as she doesn’t ask about his past and doesn’t expect a future. But when feelings get involved, rules get shattered, and love gets ugly in this heartbreaking, angst-filled romance. While the book was optioned in 2015 to be made into a film starring Nick Bateman as airline pilot Miles and a teaser trailer was even produced, the movie never got off the ground and the rights reverted back to Hoover.
Never Never (2015)
Hoover dove into the romantic suspense with this three-part novella collaboration with The Wives author Tarryn Fisher. Charlize and Silas have been best friends since they were in diapers, and boyfriend and girlfriend since they were 14—but when they wake up one morning with every memory of the other completely erased, they must work together to uncover what happened to them. And if they were ever destined to be together to begin with.
Confess (2015)
November 9 (2015)
Aspiring novelist Ben meets Fallon, a fire survivor with burn marks all over her body, the day before she moves across the country, and as they spend her final day in Los Angeles together, he finds the creative inspiration he’s been searching for. Even though they go their separate ways and live their own lives, Ben and Fallon meet up on the same day every year—until one November 9 has Fallon wondering if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating the ultimate plot twist.
Too Late (2016)
Darker and edgier than Hoover’s other works, Too Late’s heroine, college student Sloan, is trapped in a toxic relationship with drug dealer Asa because it’s the only way she can help her disabled brother. But Asa’s new business partner, Carter, just may be Sloan’s way out. If they both can escape before it’s too late. Trigger warning: Too Late contains scenes of graphic violence, rape, murder, and other sensitive issues.
It Ends With Us (2016)
The novel that sparked this summer’s viral CoHo worship, It Ends With Us was voted the Best Romance in 2016’s Goodreads Choice Awards this powerful novel is most definitely a good introduction for the Hoover newbie. Trigger warning: Inspired by Hoover’s mother’s personal experiences, It Ends With Us has themes of domestic violence. Heroine Lily, who grew up in an abusive family, is forever making excuses to forgive her abusive husband, Ryle—but a chance encounter with her first love, Atlas, and an unexpected complication finally gives Lily the strength to end the cycle of abuse. The movie rights for It Ends With Us has been optioned by JANE THE VIRGIN star Justin Baldoni, but casting came to a halt as a result of the pandemic. “I have faith in Justin Baldoni because he has faith in this book,” Hoover recently said of the movie adaptation on Facebook.
Without Merit (2017)
Voted the Best Romance in the 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards, Without Merit has been described by many reviewers as more of an angsty coming-of-age tale with a touch of romance between heroine Merit, a teen struggling with depression, and her romantic suitor, Sagan. Fed up with her dysfunctional family’s layers of lies, Merit exposes the web of deceit before leaving behind the family she’s never felt a part of. But when her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to face the consequence of her actions—including potentially losing the boy she loves.
All Your Perfects (2018)
Another gut-wrenching, ugly cry CoHo tale, All Your Perfects is an emotional story about a childless couple on the verge of divorce, having fallen apart emotionally and physically during their struggle with infertility. Set in a dual timeline, readers get to see Graham and Quinn fall in perfect love at the same time their imperfect marriage is crumbling. But can a promise made long ago save this damaged couple’s potential future? Have tissues ready if you are brave enough to dive into this heartbreaking journey.
Finding Perfect (2019)
If you have already read the entire Hopeless Series and All Your Perfects, then you won’t want to miss this companion novella. Told from Daniel’s point of view (Finding Cinderella), think of this as an extended epilogue, bringing together several beloved characters from the books in a heartwarming conclusion.
Verity (2018)
A book unlike any of Hoover’s others, Verity is a creepy psychological thriller that will have you guessing whodunit until the very end. Gifted young writer Lowen is hired by Jeremy, the husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, to ghostwrite the remaining books in a successful series since his injured wife is unable to do the work herself. Along the way, Lowen uncovers secrets she was never meant to discover—including an unfinished autobiography that Verity never meant for anyone to read. If contemporary romance isn’t your thing but crazy, suspenseful thrillers are, Verity is the CoHo book you must read!
Regretting You (2019)
I loved the complicated, complex family drama in Regretting You. There is a romance storyline, but this book is one I would definitely categorize as women’s fiction or coming-of-age as mother and daughter Morgan and Clara try to navigate their new normal following a horrible accident that killed Morgan’s husband. How they come through the other side is a tremendous angst-filled journey of grief, anger, and ultimately, forgiveness.
Heart Bones (2020)
Heart Bones is an intensely emotional young adult romance. Beyah and Samson, seemingly come from different worlds, but their damaged souls are drawn together like magnets. Their love has an expiration date—Beyah is only visiting for the summer—but as Beyah and Samson heal each other’s broken pieces, their romance becomes much more than a shallow end-of-summer fling.
Layla (2020)
A romance with a paranormal twist, Layla explores life after tragedy and the enduring spirit of love as Leeds and Layla try to mend their relationship after a tragedy that left her both physically and mentally scarred. While vacationing at the B&B where they first met, Leeds makes a strong connection with another guest, Willow. But strange occurrences—and Layla’s bizarre behavior—make Leeds realize that he has to make a choice between the two women… and the wrong choice could be detrimental to them all.
Reminders Of Him (2022)
Good people can make bad decisions, which is how a terrible accident landed Kenna in jail for five years. Now that she’s been released, Kenna’s looking for a chance to redeem herself and reconnect with her young daughter in Reminders Of Him, but the only person willing to give her a helping hand—bar owner Ledger—is the last person that should. Reminders of Him is equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful… and had me sobbing an ugly cry more than once as I read it.
