1. Hocus Pocus (1993)
No Halloween movie list is complete without Hocus Pocus. The Sanderson Sisters (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) are brought back to life after a virgin lights the Black Flame Candle on All Hallows’ Eve. Now running amuck in the 20th century, the witches are determined to become immortal.
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Jack Skellington is the “Pumpkin King” of Halloween Town, but he’s tired of the same old scary routine. After coming across Christmas Town, Jack decides to hijack Santa’s holiday turning it into a total nightmare for young boys and girls.
3. Halloweentown (1998)
Being normal is vastly overrated if you ask Aggie Cromwell (Debbie Reynolds). But then again, what would she know about normal since she’s a witch? Her grandchildren learn the truth on Halloween when they follow her back to her home of Halloweentown, where trouble is looming.
4. Under Wraps (2021)
The contemporary remake of the first-ever 1997 Disney Channel Original Movie, Under Wraps, follows three 12-year-old friends who awaken a mummy. The pals must return the mummy, they named Harold, to his resting place before midnight on Halloween.
5. Mom’s Got a Date With a Vampire (2000)
The Hansen kids have plans to go out, but they’re grounded. So, they hatch a plan to set their mom up on a date, but it turns out he’s a vampire. Now the kids will have to save their mom.
6. Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)
On the night of a big premiere, something, or someone is wreaking havoc at the Megaplex, where Pete Riley (Taylor Handley) works, prompting his brother Brian to wonder whether it’s the rumored phantom who haunts the theater.
7. The Haunted Mansion (2003)
The comedy is based on Disney World’s theme park attraction, the Haunted Mansion. Before a family vacation, workaholic real estate agent Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) decides to make a little detour to check out a property that Master Gracey is interested in selling. Trapped in the haunted Gracey Manor, Jim and his family will have to break a curse in order to escape.
8. Toy Story of Terror! (2013)
A road trip took an unexpected turn for Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of Bonnie’s beloved toys in this TV special. Following a flat tire, the gang spends the night at a “haunted” roadside motel. When a toy goes missing, “the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events.”
9. Return to Halloweentown (2006)
Marnie is back in the final film of the franchise and heading to college after landing a full scholarship to Witch University in Halloweentown. While Marnie wants to use her magic, the school has a rule forbidding it. The college student will also learn of an ancient prophecy.
10. Under Wraps (1997)
Three kids accidentally wake up a mummy they name Harold. They’ll have to help the mummy return to his resting place by midnight on Halloween or he will cease to exist, thus preventing him from reuniting with his long-lost love.
11. Tower of Terror (1997)
The horror film is based on the Disney attraction The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Buzzy Crocker (Steve Guttenberg), a journalist, decides to investigate the unexplained disappearance of five individuals who vanished in the elevator of the Hollywood Tower Hotel on Halloween in 1939.
12. Halloweentown High (2004)
The third film of the franchise sees Marnie put the Cromwell magic on the line so that students from Halloweentown can attend high school in the human world. What could go wrong?
13. Twitches (2005)
Kind of like Sister, Sister, but with a magical twist. Tia and Tamera Mowry play twin witches, Alex Fielding and Camryn Barnes, who were separated at birth and adopted by families on earth. The sisters reunite on their 21st birthday and use their powers to return to their birthplace, Coventry, to save their biological mother, as well as their kingdom.
14. The Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009)
During a tropical family vacation, witch Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) makes a wish that threatens her family’s very existence. She and her brother will have to try and find the Stone of Dreams to reverse the spell.
15. Don’t Look Under the Bed (1999)
This is one that definitely makes us not want to look under our bed! Frances McCausland (Erin Chambers) is being framed by the boogeyman in this horror flick, so she enlists the help of an imaginary friend named Larry Houdini.
16. Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001)
In the sequel to the original movie, a warlock steals Aggie’s spellbook and causes trouble in Halloweentown. Marnie, with the help of her siblings, will have to get the book back to save Halloweentown and the mortal world.
17. The Scream Team (2002)
Following the death of their grandfather, Ian and Claire Carlyle (Mark Rendall and Kat Dennings) discover that ghosts exist. The siblings team up with the Soul Patrol to save their grandfather’s spirit and help him crossover.
18. Maleficent (2014)
Again, not technically a Halloween movie, but it’s a live-action flick about one of Disney’s scariest villains, Maleficent. Angelina Jolie portrays the villain in the origin story film, which paints a different picture of the iconic character.
19. Mickey’s House of Villains (2002)
It’s Halloween night at the House of Mouse and Disney’s famous villains, including Jafar, Ursula and Cruella, are taking over and turning the club into the House of Villains.
20. Dragonslayer (1981)
The title says it all. A wizard’s young apprentice steps up to try and kill a dragon, who has virgins sacrificed to it in the kingdom of Urland.
21. The Black Cauldron (1985)
Taran, an assistant pig-keeper, embarks on a quest with his friends to find the Black Cauldron and rescue the kingdom before the evil emperor Horned King gets it.
22. The Ghosts of Buxley Hall (1980)
A 100-year-old military academy in financial trouble is forced to merge with an all-girl school, which the resident spirits are not happy about. The ghosts join forces with a young cadet named Jeremy to save Buxley Hall.
23. Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)
Pooh and his Hundred Acre Wood pals set out on an adventure to capture the Gobloon, a creature that comes out every Halloween, before he catches one of them and turns them into “jaggedy lanterns.”
24. Mr. Boogedy (1986)
The Davis family moves into a new home in Lucifer Falls, but they are not alone. Their house is haunted by Mr. Boogedy!
25. Frankenweenie (2012)
Young Victor Frankenstein wants to resurrect his dog Sparky in this Tim Burton-directed comedy. When Victor’s secret gets out, Sparky isn’t the only animal who comes back to life.
26. Now You See It… (2005)
Aspiring producer Allyson Miller’s (Aly Michalka) search for the world’s greatest kid magician leads her to Danny Sinclair (Johnny Pacar), whose magic is actually real.
27. James and the Giant Peach (1996)
Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book was adapted for the big screen in this Tim Burton-coproduced flick, which follows the adventures of James and his new friends onboard a, you guessed it, giant peach.
28. Twitches Too (2007)
The future of Coventry depends on twin sisters Alex and Camryn in the magical sequel to the Disney Channel Original Movie Twitches.
29. Monsters, Inc. (2001)
What’s Halloween without some Monsters, even if they are the friendly kind? Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan work at Monsters Incorporated, where monsters scare children to collect their screams to power Monstropolis. However, their lives are turned upside down when a human child, who is believed to be toxic, enters the monster world.
30. Invisible Sister (2015)
A science experiment gone wrong leaves Cleo’s (Rowan Blanchard) popular sister Molly (Paris Berelc) invisible, which will become permanent if they don’t find an antidote in time.
31. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad is an animated adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s children’s novel The Wind in the Willows and Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow featuring the Headless Horseman.
32. Monsters University (2013)
Who knew monsters could be so cute? Monsters University takes viewers back to Mike Wazowski’s childhood days when he was first inspired to become a scarer. Once in college chasing his dream, Mike meets James P. “Sulley” Sullivan. The pair go from rivals to unlikely friends after competing in the annual Scare Games.
33. Girl vs. Monster (2012)
Fearless Skylar (Olivia Holt) learns that she is the daughter of monster hunters after accidentally releasing a monster named Deimata, who wants to hunt her parents and possess Skylar’s soul.
34. Spooky Buddies (2011)
Puppies in costumes? Yes, please. The Buddies have been to Alaska, the North Pole and the moon, but this time around they’re back for a Halloween adventure as they try to stop Warwick the Warlock
35. Bride of Boogedy (1987)
The story of the Davis family continues in the sequel to Mr. Boogedy, which sees the return of the ghost who is now seeking a bride.
36. Lonesome Ghosts (1937)
In the words of Mickey Mouse, “Oh boy!” Four bored and lonely ghosts trick Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy, from the “Ajax Ghost Exterminators” agency, to come to their haunted house just so they can scare them.
37. Coco (2017)
While Coco is not a Halloween movie, it centers around the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead), which starts at midnight on Nov. 1. A young boy named Miguel aspires to be a musician, but his family has a generations-old ban on music. After being magically transported to the colorful Land of the Dead, Miguel seeks the help of a deceased relative to make it back to the Land of the Living.
38. Trick or Treat (1952)
Donald Duck’s nephews get their treats after a witch decides to help Huey, Dewey, and Louie!
Disney+ Halloween Original Specials
Muppets Haunted Mansion (2021)
The first-ever Muppets Halloween special, featuring a star-studded Muppets cast, as well as celebrity cameos and new music, is debuting Oct. 8 on the streamer. Gonzo is challenged in the new Disney+ original program to spend “one very daring night in the most grim grinning place on Earth” a.k.a The Haunted Mansion.
LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales
Venture to a galaxy far, far away this Halloween as Darth Vader’s loyal servant Vaneé shares three stories “linked to ancient artifacts and iconic villains from across all eras of Star Wars.”
Just Beyond (2021)
As part of Disney+’s 2021 Hallowstream, eight episodes of Just Beyond premiered last year. The supernatural anthology series, inspired by the writings of R.L. Stine, introduced viewers to new characters who go on journeys of “self-discovery in a supernatural world of witches, aliens, ghosts and parallel universes” in every episode.
