In the big scene, there they were, sitting in math class, and Aaron asked Cady what day it was, to which she replied, “It’s October 3rd.” And that’s it, one for the history books. Their first real connection. Plus, shameless plug for Karen—her favorite holiday is Halloween, so yet another reason for Mean Girls Day to be in October. So, text your girlfriends (you can even not-so-secretly three-way call) and make some plans—here are the best ideas for celebrating Mean Girls Day!
25 Best Ways to Celebrate a Happy Mean Girls Day on October 3, 2022
Wear pink.
Unfortunately, October 3rd doesn’t fall on a Wednesday this year (the next time it does will be in 2029!). But you can still celebrate by wearing pink. It’s arguably the most famous line of the whole movie. The Plastics (Regina, Gretchen and Karen) welcome Cady into their fold. As they explain the dress code, they resolutely declare, “On Wednesdays, we wear pink." Fans have been following the code rule ever since.
Make a round of mocktails for dinner.
If you’re a cool mom (not a regular mom), like Regina’s mom, spike them (adults only).
Buy plastic crowns for you and your friends.
If anyone deserves to wear crowns, it’s The Plastics (just ask them). Wear your crowns with pride, ladies.
Show off a huge, voluminous hairstyle.
Tease up your hair, use lots of spray and take some pictures for social media explaining how your hair is so big because “it’s full of secrets.”
Three-way call your BFFs.
Instead of doing it with bad intentions, call up your buds and simply enjoy being on the phone together at the same time!
Throw a costume party.
It might be nice to give your friends a heads up on what costumes to wear. Remember, in the movie, Cady showed up as a zombie ex-wife.
Wear your Halloween costume early.
Don’t have time to organize a costume party? At least try out your Halloween costume. Karen won’t mind. Halloween is her favorite.
Put on mouse ears for the day.
Upon opening the door for her friends at the costume party, Karen proclaimed: “I’m a mouse. Duh!”
Text Karen’s World Peace speech to all your friends.
You’ll find it in the Broadway musical version, but Karen’s iconic world peace speech is worth repeating.
Look up ten calculus problems, and attempt to solve them.
We all know Cady is a math whiz, so celebrate and try to copy her mathlete skills. How many problems can you and your besties solve?
In honor of Cady’s zoologist parents, take a trip to the zoo.
Look out for some of the animals who are indigenous to Africa, including hippos, lions, cheetahs, rhinos, giraffes and elephants.
Share your favorite Mean Girls meme on social media.
Caption it: “So fetch.” After trying the phrase out throughout the movie, Gretchen will thank you for helping to “make fetch happen.”
Use the term “grool.”
Maybe Regina was right, fetch might not happen. But Cady once “meant to say cool and started to say great,” so feel free to see if “grool” can happen instead.
Have a toaster strudel for breakfast.
Gretchen’s dad did invent them after all.
Watch the movie.
Perhaps maybe we should have just mentioned this one first.
Eat cheese fries for lunch.
Because (maybe) carbs don’t count on Mean Girls Day.
Go to Taco Bell for dinner.
Karen: “Do you wanna do something fun? Do you wanna go to Taco Bell?”
Look up the Mean Girls cast list and see what they’re up to.
Here are some fan favorites; Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Tim Meadows, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Franzese, and Jonathan Bennett. You can even watch some of their other flicks!
Rent a convertible for the afternoon.
We’d suggest a silver Lexus if you can swing it. That’s what Regina drives.
Go shopping at the mall.
If you want to visit the actual mall from the movie, you’ll be traveling to Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada—home to Sherway Gardens Mall.
Create a “Burn Book.” With a positive spin.
The book, created by The Plastics to start rumors, stories and gossip about students at North Shore High School, got the girls in big trouble. Fill up your own “burn book” that will create sparks of joy instead—like sharing compliments and gratitude!
Get tickets to see the Broadway Musical (if you can) at a city near you.
Opening night was October 31, 2017, and thousands of fans have enjoyed the Mean Girls adaptation on the live stage since then.
Buy some Mean Girls memorabilia.
A quick internet search will give you a plethora of options. Happy shopping!
Listen to the Mean Girls soundtrack.
The original soundtrack is eighteen years old, but there’s still some magic left in these songs. A playlist that includes Blondie, Missy Elliott and Barry White can’t be all bad.
Take a selfie of you putting your whole fist in your mouth.
In other words, channel your inner Karen (who told Cady this was one of her skills). Next up: Tina Fey Opens up About the Inspiration Behind Mean Girls
